Abstract

Goal: From the pandemic of new coronavirus context, and due impacts on the tourism sector, this theoretical essay aims to present reflections and connections on some elements of solidarity tourism, considering the concept of sustainability.


Design½Methodology½Approach: This is a theoretical essay, based on concepts and theories, to elaborate some critical reflections on some elements of an epistemology of solidary and sustainable tourism.


Results: It is concluded that solidarity is a guiding and driving assumption for new tools and new approaches that allow greater access and exchange of experiences. Collaboration and solidary interaction between different actors in the construction of measures to fight the virus is an essential factor for responsible tourism recovery.


Originality/Value: The reflections brought in this essay differ from the economic approaches of tourist activity. They comprise a broader perspective, which encompasses human valorization, collaboration and cooperation, as fundamental principles in the theoretical construction of tourism from the lessons that can be learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
