Abstract

The Afro-Brazilian carnival parade groups (‘blocos afro’) were created in the city of Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) in the 1970s and define themselves as carnival groups for the preservation of the black culture. Since then, they live in conflict with the black movements called themselves politic. Leaving of the presupposition that this opposition has for base different conceptions on culture and politics, this article, product of an ethnographic research, has for objective to present as the development of a social project with children on the part of one of the ‘blocos afro’ of Ilhéus (Bahia) has been promoting the approach of this with the political black movement of the city. This approach would feel as a result of a general process of 'NGOzation' of the society, that reaches in full those groups and it generates a new understanding of what would be politics and culture, which is common for both.
