Intersubjective and Interspecies Relations in a “Distant” Place: Coxilha Rica

In the great expanses of the Coxilha Rica fields, in the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, life flows between humans and non-humans, domestic and wild animals, configuring intersubjective and interspecies relationships, outlining behaviors, fostering forms of thought and a sociability proper to this land. In this place, the division of land into farms or rural properties is characteristic, as well as the existence of some villages with houses, something less frequent in the region. These form of spatiality organize life and sociability between people and animal species, determining some spaces for these encounters between humans and other forms of life. In this article I analyze and compare native concepts with other geographic and anthropological ones such as geographic space, territory, environment, landscape and place, showing how these native perceptions regulate the process of domestication of animals in the place, and serve to understand the intersubjective and interspecies relations of the Coxilha Rica.
