Abstract

Treatment with 10-4M 6-BA promoted amylolytic as well as proteolytic activity in incubated detached cotyledons of Phaseolus vulgaris. Amylolytic activity was promoted in a higher degree than proteolytic activity, surpassing even embryo-induced amylolytic activity. Acid fractions from 7-days old bean seeds extracts and 1O-4MABA inhibited the amylolytic activity promoted by 6-BA in detached cotyledons; this activity was not inhibited by 1O-4M GA3 or AIA. Treatment with either 1O-4M 6-BA or GA3 in separate, or with both in combination did not enhance proteolytic activity in incubated detached cotyledons to the leveIs verified in the presence of embryó. These data suggest the existance of differing c~ntrols for activity ofamylases and proteases in germinations bean, seeds, the latter being less influenced by the action of cytokinins than the former, in which the strong promotive effect would be counterbalanced by ABA.
