Taxonomic study of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) collected in the Arroio Faxinal (Sanga da Água Boa), Torres, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil

Abstract

This volume results from a taxonomic study of tilatoms collected in the Arroio Faxina1 (Sanga da Água Boa), a small strean located in the northeastern coast of Rio Grande do Sul (Torres, South Brazil). Samples were collected during 13 months, from November 1979 to November 1980, at four previously establishd stations. 141 taxa were identified, distributed into 24 genera and 8 families, from which 31 have never been cited before in the state. For each taxon, the original publicatio nas been cited, as well as the basionym (with respective description place). We included also: the publications which the identlfication was based, the description of the taxon and its rnetric variation, the discussion refering to its e i taxonomy and nomenclature and the samples examined. For each genus a description was made and an artificial key was developed for the determination of the species, varieties and forms found in the region.
