Planktonic diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) from the Ribeirão da Fazenda - Rio Tavares mangrove, Florianópolis SC - Brazil

Abstract

A taxonomic survey on the diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) of the Ribeirão da Fazenda, Santa Catarina State, was made. The River, cross out an area covered by mangrove forests; being the main afiluent of the Tavares River. There were identified 110 infrageneric taxa, distributed in 16 families, 48 genera, 10 varieties and 1 taxonomic form. Five taxa are new records for the Santa Catarina State and Sceptronema orientale Takano for Brazil. Naviculaceae was the family better represented, followed by Nitzschiaceae, Diatomaceae and Eupodiscaceae. Navicula, Nitzschia, Actinopthychus and Diploneis were the dominant genera during the present study.
