Abstract

The parcial results of a survey on the River Tavares Mangrove diatom flora are presented. The Tavares River drains to the South Bay in Santa Catarina Island, Santa Catarina State, Brasil. The analysis of 27 samples from 9 collect stations allowed the identification of 41 taxa of Order Centrales distributed in 9 families and 20 genus. Two taxa are first cited for Santa Catarina State: Auliscus sculptus (W.M.Smith) Ralfs and Coscinodiscus apiculatus Ehrenberg. This survey is comparated with others previously done in the mangroves of the Santa Catarina Island verifying the taxa was reported for ali mangroves and the others pioner reported in this ambient. Description, citation of the first description work, basonimous, literature used in the identification, size limits, citation for the Santa Catarina State and comments are provided for each táxon. An artificial analytical key was elaborated for identification of genera and for infrageneric taxa for the genera with more than one táxon. A maps of the studied area, photornicrographs or draws of the identified taxa and tables are also provided.
