Diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) of Ratones River, Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. I - Low current and estuary

Abstract

A survey was made on the Diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) of the low current and estuary of Ratones, River, an area covered with mangroves, located on Santa Catarina Island, Florianópolis, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Sample were collected in November - 1985 to November - 1986, at 4 stations, in a total of 48 samples. There were recognized 283 infrageneric taxa, distributed in 19 families and 82 genera. A total of 82 species were considered new records for the Santa Catarina State. Out of 283 recognized taxa, 107 are polyhalobe, 70 mesohalobe and 26 oligohalobe; the other presents larger ecological range, or its ecology is poorly known.
