The mangrove macroalgae from Maracá Island - Amapá State, northern Brazil
Abstract
The mangals along Maracá Island, Amapá State, Northern Brazil presents a low macroalgae species diversity if compared with other areas of the Brazilian coast. Eight species of algae are referred for the region, based on recent collections: RHODOPHYTA: Bostrychia radicans (Montagne) Montagne, Bostrychia pilulifera Montagne, Caloglossa leprieurii (Montagne) J. Ag., Catenella caespitosa (Withering) L. Irvine in Parke e Dixon; CHLOROPHYTA: Boodleopsis pusilla (Collins) W. Taylor, Joly et Bernatowicz, Rhizoclonium africanum Kuetzing, R. riparium (Roth) Kuetzing ex Harvey, R. sp. The low algal diversity for the region is tentatively related mainly to the turbid water, substract instability and low salinity. Bostrychia pilulifera Montagne is referred for the first time for the Brazilian mainly coast. The species is only known from French Guiana and Surinam and is described in this paper.Downloads
