Quantitative variation of phytoplankton in the shelf off Pernambuco (Brazil)

Abstract

In the phytoplankton of the shelf off Pernambuco has been identified phytoflagellates, diatoms, dinoflagellates, cyanophyceans and euglenophyceans, being the diatoms and phytoflagellates the most abundant of them. The cell numbers has varied in all the coast, reaching values between 50.000 and 870.000 cél./litro, occuring higher values in nearlier areas of the coast.
