Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and it is not being evaluated for publishing by another journal; otherwise, explain in the “Comments for the Editor”.
  • The files accepted for submission are formatted in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format (maximum size of 2MB)
  • All website addresses (URLs), within the text (Ex.: http://www.ibict.br) are active and ready to redirect.
  • The manuscript is formatted in 1,5 spacing); size 12 font; employs italics instead of underlining (except in URL addresses); with images and tables inserted in the text, and not at the end.
  • The text follows the style pattern and bibliographic requirements described in Guidelines for Authors, in the section “About the Journal”.
  • The authorship identification of this work was removed from the file and from the Properties option on Word, assuring the secrecy policy of the Journal, in case the text is submitted to peer evaluation (ex.: articles), according to instructions available at Securing the Blind Peer Evaluation.

Author Guidelines

EDITORIAL GUIDELINES – ANUÁRIO DE LITERARURA JOURNAL

 

Anuário de Literatura welcomes contributions from authors who hold MA and PhD degrees. MA candidates may co-author pieces submitted by authors with a PhD. The following editorial guidelines are required for the submission of original articles, essays, reviews, interviews, and translations.

The journal reserves the right not to accept more than one unpublished work per author per year.

Contributions are accepted in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.

 

I – Regarding Contributions:

Each volume will feature the following submission types:

Article: between ten and twenty pages;

Essay: between ten and fifteen pages;

Review: between two and four pages;

Interview: up to four pages;

Translation: up to fifteen pages, besides the original text;

 

  1. Contributions must be original and unpublished.
  2. Contributions from PhD holders, must be submitted through the section “Faculty Researchers”, except when contributing to “Theme Section” or “Dossier”.
  3. The Journal will privilege manuscripts that are in accordance with the featured “Theme Section” and/or “Dossier”.
  4. The Journal will privilege manuscripts submitted by authors who are regularly enrolled in a graduate program, and authors who have recently obtained their MA and/or PhD degrees.
  5. Contributions must be sent exclusively via the SEER platform.
  6. When submitting a manuscript through the SEER platform, a link to the author’s CV (Curriculum Lattes, when appropriate) must be included in the field named “Author’s Comment”.
  7. The contributions that do not follow this procedure, as well as the guidelines specified below, will not be submitted for analysis by the Advisory Board.
  8. The contributions received will be submitted to the review of at least two members of the Advisory Board, according to their specialty.
  9. Authors of both accepted and rejected manuscripts will be communicated via e-mail, in order to guarantee anonymity from the peer evaluators.
  10. The Journal’s Advisory Board and the Editorial Team reserve the right not to comment on the reasons in case of rejection.
  11. The Editorial Team also reserves the right to return originals, when necessary, for corrections or modifications of thematic and/or formal order.
  12. Book reviews submitted must discuss books that were recently published. (Two years in the case of books released by national publishers, and three years, in the case of books released by international publishing companies.).
  13. The diversity in institutional representation in every issue is ensured by the Journal.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject submissions by authors who had articles published in Anuário in an issue immediately previous to the current one.

 

II – Text Length (OU Style and Format)

The manuscripts submitted must follow the style and format that fit the following sections of Anuário de Literatura:

A – Article –research-oriented manuscript (bibliographical, documental, experimental…) highlighting the theoretical and methodological basis, research procedures and results achieved – maximum of 20 pages.

B – Book Review – Manuscripts that present a critique of books published in the previous two years, in the case of national publications, and three years in the case of foreign publications. highlighting both strong and weak points, and the contributions made to its respective field of knowledge,– maximum of 04 pages.

C – Interview – A text that transcribes an interview about a subject of interest to the field of literary studies – maximum of 04 pages.

D – Translation –Translation of fragments or complete literary or theoretical texts, as long as authorized by the author and/or pertaining to public domain. The original versions must accompany the translations.

 

III – Formatting:

  1. The texts in Portuguese must follow the standards by Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas – ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards) – NBR6022 of May of 2003.
  2. Texts must  be formatted in .doc or .docx extensions.
  3. Texts must be typed with the following configuration:
  • Top left margin: 3cm; bottom right margin: 2cm;
  • A4 paper format;
  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12;
  • Justified alignment;
  • Paragraph indentation: 1,5cm

 

  1. The presentation of the articles must obey the following order:

 

  • TITLE: Bold, Centered, Calibri font, size 24;
  • LINE SPACING: single, size 12, between the title and the author’s name;
  • AUTHOR’S NAME: centered, italicized, Calibri font, size 20;
  • NAME OF INSTITUTION: in full, centered without highlight, Calibri font, size 14;
  • LINE SPACING: single, size 12, between institution and abstract;
  • Abstract ranging from 150 to 350 words. Key-words (maximum of five), separated by periods.

 

 

  • Texts must contain an introduction, body and conclusion. Subtitles must have upper and lower case, and must be unindented, unnumbered, and in bold.
  • Tables, graphics, and images must be accompanied by captions or explanatory header. Images must be listed in a separate reference, at the end of the text, right after general references, titled “Image Credits”.
  • Quotes must be indicated in the text, providing the last name of the author(s) mentioned, (Author, year, page), when the quote is an integral part of the text, and (AUTHOR, year, page), when indented. Quotes may be:

 

-       Indirect quotes – present the author’s ideas, without actually transcribing the author’s words.

-       Short direct quotes (up to three lines) – Inserted in the text, between quotation marks, not italicized. 

-      Long direct quotes (longer than three lines) - 4cm indent, Times New Roman font, size 10, simgle spacing. The space between text body and long quote is that of an enter? 

-       Footnotes must be at the end of each page; the use of footnotes, quotes, graphics, tables, images, charts, pictures, among others, should be limited to a minimum.

 

  • If necessary, include “ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS” after the text and before References, listing the name(s) of the person(s) that in some way helped be it in data collection, illustrations, or even with the use of laboratories mentioning.
  • The originals must numbered on bottom right corner.

 

References – must be in accordance with NBR 6023.

 

Title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese must always be included.

 

Important informations

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows you to share the work with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.


Articles

Aceita-se originais sob a forma de artigo inédito resultante de pesquisa (bibliográfica, documental, experimental...) destacando a fundamentação teórico-metodológica, procedimentos empregados na pesquisa e resultados alcançados em Literatura e Teoria Literária.

Interviews

Aceita-se originais sob forma de entrevista inédita, que esteja editada em formato compatível com sua publicação, de maneira a transcrever uma entrevista sobre tema de interesse dos estudos literários.

Book reviews

Aceita-se original sob forma de resenha e que apresente uma apreciação crítica de livros publicados nos últimos dois anos, no caso de publicações nacionais, e de três anos no caso de publicações estrangeiras voltadas àLiteratura e Teoria Literária. 

Essays

Aceita-se originais sob forma de ensaio, em Literatura e Teoria Literária resultantes de pesquisa científica, que expõe as ideias e pontos de vista do/a autor/a sobre determinado tema, buscando originalidade no enfoque, sem, contudo, explorar o tema de forma exaustiva.

From hegemonic literature to counter-narratives: representations of black masculinities in Brazilian literature

Quando nos deparamos com os estudos relacionados às masculinidades, passamos a compreender, de forma sistêmica, que elas são diversas. Robert W. Connell e James W. Messerschmidt no texto Masculinidade hegemônica: repensando o conceito (2013), por exemplo, apontam que existem as masculinidades hegemônicas e as marginalizadas.

Monica Conrado e Alan Augusto Moraes Ribeiro em Homem Negro, Negro Homem: masculinidades e feminismo negro em debate (2017), ao discutirem sobre essa dicotomia, com base nos estudiosos supracitados, asseguram que na masculinidade hegemônica as principais características que se evidenciam são: ser branco, heterossexual, rico e ocidental. Já as marginalizadas são constituídas por sujeitos identificáveis como negros, gays, pobres, não brancos e transgêneros.

Neste contexto de estudo, interessam-nos as masculinidades marginalizadas, sobretudo, os homens negros, pois entendemos que eles, como concluiu Franz Fanon em Peles negras e máscaras brancas (2008), não são homens, na realidade, são homens negros. Desse modo, o aspecto racial sempre é uma interdição. A priori, mencionamos tal aspecto. Contudo, dada a perspectiva interseccional proposta por kimberlé Crenshaw (2002; 2004), devemos ter consciência de que há outros marcadores sociais que os impedem de viver a “plenitude” da masculinidade hegemônica.

Após este preâmbulo, salientamos que o nosso objetivo é reunir estudos que abordem as representações das masculinidades negras na produção literária brasileira em diferentes gêneros literários. Interessam-nos estudos que versam sobre: (1) a construção e manutenção dos estereótipos dos homens negros na literatura compreendida como hegemônica; (2) a humanização dos homens negros na literatura afro-brasileira e, por conseguinte, o rompimento com os estereótipos atribuídos a eles; e (3) as representações dos homens negros para além da cisheteronormatividade, entre outros temas que dialogam com a proposta do dossiê.

Orienta-se a adoção de uma perspectiva interseccional que considere a inter-relação entre raça, classe, identidade de gênero, sexualidade e outros marcadores sociais, visto que eles são relevantes para pensar as masculinidades negras e, por conseguinte, o lugar conferido a tais sujeitos na literatura brasileira.
