In the book A novel of generation: theater-fiction, originally published in 1980, Sérgio Sant’Anna (1941-2020) creates a fictional universe in which literary work merges with the idea of theatrical representation and the theme of the military dictatorship installed in Brazil in 1964. Carlos Santeiro, the protagonist, also a writer in an existential, emotional and literary crisis, receives a journalist in his apartment to interview him. What seems, at first, like an unpleasant visit, becomes a memorable encounter, as Santeiro manages to transform it into an unprecedented dramatic game. In this sense, when covering the subjects of this fictional interview about Brazilian literature from the final period of the military dictatorship, we aim to highlight the author's literary creation processes, with an emphasis on the study of the hybridity of his compositional aspects. Thus, for a better understanding and aesthetic interpretation of the narrative, the definitions and theoretical concepts used will come, for the most part, from the two arts focused on: literature and theater.
