This article presents a discussion about Cecilia Meireles (1901-1964) performance on Brazilian literature for child, enhancing the issues related to reading and literature in childhood. It is supposed that reading is an essential tool in man’s life as its learning and practice make it able to broaden the knowledge of the world and allows the access to the necessary ways of communication for living in society. It must, this way, get started in the child’s education. The author, above mentioned, emphasizes the need, indeed, to write specifically for children aiming their whole development. She also wrote some articles for papers, pronounced in conferences, wrote poetries, books, plays and children chants. In this sense her literary production, especially those designed for children is in fact a reference for educators who approach reading inside classroom focusing the education of children.Downloads
