Letras - a first look
Abstract
Em 1º de abril de 1989 inicia-se a circulação do suplemento cultural Letras que, com periodicidade semanal, acompanha as edições de sábado da Folha de S. Paulo até 1992, quando então foi substituído pelo Mais!, outro suplemento que vem sendo publicado até hoje. Letras entra em cena para substituir o Folhetim, que durante doze anos (1977-89) acompanhou semanalmente as edições do jornal paulista, na tentativa de adequar-se às mudanças que então ocorriam mundialmente, como parece sugerir a matéria de capa do primeiro caderno — “Os tempos modernos chegam ao mercado editorial brasileiro”, a qual pode, a princípio, ser lida como uma metáfora da proposta do suplemento.
