O Núcleo de Estudos Literários e Culturais da UFSC abriga um bom número de pesquisadores que tem o arquivo como eixo de suas preocupações. Manifesta-se nesse conceito um dos paradoxos mais produtivos da arte contemporânea. Com efeito, embora muitos de nós tenhamos sido educados em reconhecer as determinações da vida social na literatura, não é segredo para ninguém que a vida já não é mais considerada como um acontecimento natural, mas como um tempo artificialmente produzido. Assim sendo, a vida politiza-se automaticamente, dado que as decisões técnicas e artísticas que modelam o tempo são, igualmente, decisões políticas. Sob estas novas condições bio-políticas — as condições de um tempo de vida formado, artificialmente, através de dispositivos — a arte só pode potencializar esse artifício de maneira explícita. Entretanto, como o tempo, a duração e a própria vida não mais admitem serem mostrados diretamente, a arte contemporânea documenta tais experiências, tornando-se mero arquivo de sensações.
