The third issue of Atlântico (1943), discussed in this paper, contains forty collaborations in two hundred and fifteen pages. In view of the quantity and diversity of themes and genres (poetry, short story, criticism, and essay), I had to choose, not without difficulties, some texts that I considered relevant for literary studies, both for their uniqueness and for their poetic conceptions and aesthetical formulations. After introducing the summary, I comment on the studies by Mário de Andrade (“A dama ausente”) and Jorge de Lima (“À margem de Euclides”); a short story here represented by Maria Franco (“Distância”). The concision and lucidity of Álvaro Lins, as a critic and an essayist, are exemplarily shown in “O crítico Tristão de Athayde”. Finally, I comment briefly on two poems: “Estudo”, by Murilo Mendes, e “Allegro”, by Vinicius de Moraes. I believe that these texts can provide an overall idea of the editorial amplitude of the journal.
