In Crônica da Casa Assassinada, Lúcio Cardoso intends to unravel the human condition in depth by dramatizing the relationship between death and sexuality experienced by the human being. In this article, I propose a reading of André’s diary (one of the chronicles inside the piece) in order to highlight the implications of death as a factor responsible for dictating not only the progress of the plot, but also the experiences and feelings that express the human condition in its most essential and definitive form. In order to do so, I analyze the story of passion and death between Nina and André under the notions of “inner experience” and “eroticism”, proposed by Georges Bataille, and also of “community of lovers”, which was initially presented by Bataille, but later taken up by Jean-Luc Nancy and Maurice Blanchot.
