Abstract

Women scientists’ relevance in Brazil has been largely ignored by Brazilian Science. Short biographies of four women who worked for Instituto Biológico de São Paulo and the Jewish immigrant Khäte Schwarz’s life account break with the silence regarding women’s actuation in the scientific world and show the role they played in the improvements in the field, especially in agricultural production. They overcame barriers in situations imposed by the political systems. Creativity and the investigation strength were not limited by age of gender condition.
