Este artigo tem por objetivo participar do debate sobre marximo analítico, funcionalismo e teoria dos jogos, iniciado por Jon Elster, Cohen e Andrés de Francisco entre 1988 e 1990. As teses destes autores são confrontadas e hierarquizadas com base na pertinência de seus principais conceitos (individualismo metodológico, holismo radical, funcionalismo, etc.). A questão da interdisciplinaridade é enfatizada, com uma análise critica da relação entre marxismo analítico (principalmente o conceito de forças produtivas) e meio ambiente.
