The main goal of this study is to analyse how the quality of life at the work place (QLW) is characterised in the perception of the employees and managers of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). This topic was chosen because it is considered essential not only to any organisation where satisfaction, development and workers' productivity are goals to be fulfilled but also to those who plan to introduce quality and/or productivity programs. The topic was also chosen because it has been the subject of only a small number of academic studies with applicability in public universities. The qualitative methodology was used in this study, and it can be described as descriptiveexploitative, using case studies. The eight categories of WALTON (1973) were used to characterise the QLW. The research results show that to the employees and management staff of the UFSC the QLW is characterised by good work conditions (physical and social aspects) and by work satisfaction as an extension of life quality.Downloads
