In accordance with the Transtheoretical Model (PROCHASKA et.al., 1988, 1991 and 1992), the process of behavior change related to chemical dependence is similar to the process of changing others maldaptative behaviors. On the other hand, the Relapse Prevention Model (MARLATT and GORDON, 1993), which is mainly based on the Cognitive Therapy and the Behavior Therapy, has been applied to different settings. It has been perceived as an important way for the maintenance of adaptive behaviors in the process of chemical dependence recovery. A therapeutic program based on these two models was developed to adapt rather to individual than group counseling. The program has been applied to a selfhelp groups of mainly alcohol, cocaine and glue-sniffing addicts within a university campus setting. This paper describes key characteristics of the program.
