There are similarities and differences within the thoughts of the conservative Brazilian theorists. In this paper, the author will only deal with the former ones, trying to demonstrate that there are some common threads that tie their main propositions together in the formulation of systems of ideas andvalues, intransigently seeking to circumscribe the social changes to the present social conditions. The propositions offered by Perdigão Malheiros, Tavares Bastos, Joaquim Nabuco, Silvio Romero, Alberto Torres, Oliveira Vianna and Gilberto Freyre show the main nuances of a political and intellectual debate that has been established at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the present century.
