Abstract

This paper considers that nowadays the most important task of Philosophy is to justify the human presence in the world. This presence is materialized through the acquaintance with nature but mainly through the creation of a reality we call culture or man-made world which is to be clarified, improved and defended, a world which always is at risk when human dignity is endangered. We intend to emphasize the importance of Philosophy in everybody's life since Ancient Greece and as it has been transformed in an element of survival which heavily depends on the environment where the
individual who practices Philosophy lives. It is an instrument of reflexion. In our century Philosophy faced existence, and its mission has consisted in clarifying the human situation, in elucidating his or her way of being and in building new foundations for our life.

José Mauricio de Carvalho, Fundação E. São João Del Rey - FUNREY

Possui graduação em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal de São João Del Rei (1980), graduação em Filosofia pela Universidade Federal de São João Del Rei (1983), graduação em Pedagogia pela Universidade Federal de São João Del Rei (1984), mestrado em Filosofia pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (1986) e doutorado em Filosofia pela Universidade Gama Filho (1990). Fez estágio de pós-doutorado na Universidade Nova de Lisboa - Portugal (1994) e Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2001). Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Federal de São João del-Rei, e integra o Conselho Editorial dos periódicos - Educação e Filosofia , - Anais de Filosofia e - Vertentes (São João Del-Rei) . Tem experiência na área de Filosofia, com ênfase em História da Filosofia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: filosofia, ética, cultura, política e moral. É membro do Instituto Brasileiro de Filosofia, do Instituto de Filosofia Luso-brasileiro e da Academia Sãojoanense de Letras.
