In this article, we seek to analyze the social meanings produced by the animated short film "Ressurreição" (2019), directed by Otto Guerra. To achieve this objective, we adopted the theoretical-methodological framework of Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (LEDIN; MACHIN, 2018). Thus, the analysis of the elements that make up the audiovisual narrative in question used the following categories: narrative stages, scenarios, characters, rhythm and sound in the scenes. Among the results found, we can infer that, in terms of narrative structure, we observe the configuration of a dystopian genre whose initial orientation reveals a dark scenario and presents its oppressive agents. Then, the protagonist's relationship with this antagonistic world is highlighted. Then comes the complication, which would be awareness, when the hero realizes the problems in the world around him, trying to fight against this system, ending with the outcome, in which the protagonist's death occurs. It is worth noting that sound resources are fundamental to signal a change of stage in the analyzed narrative. The setting, in black and white, evokes a psychological, dark and dramatic atmosphere of the actions performed by the characters, which invite us to reflect on the deviations and distortions that exist in our religious social institutions.
