Abstract

Development models have generated increased levels of contamination, affecting actual generations and putting in risk the possibilities of development of future generations. It’s necessary to be conscious of the problem and of possible solutions, aspects that are treated when we consider two of their components: garbage management and water consume. For being real, objective and feasible, sustainability must become an alternative paradigm in which environmental resources, being potentially capable of reconstructing the economic process within a new productive rationality, promote a social project based on cultural autonomies, on democracy, and on the productivity of  nature. “Garbage is not waste; it is raw material” The principle that should rule garbage management, among others, is not to send energy to final disposal. Bad practices in water use have important effects on the environment and the economy. Therefore, awareness and training on the importance of preserving this resource, and hence of the necessity of a rational use of  it, are essential. Good practices in water use (at a national, organizational, or individual level) are varied and are compiled in the present essay. “Nobody has the right to be inefficient when using resources, even if he pays for them, since his wasting could become in scarce for others”.
