Reproductive biology of the saddle cichlid, Aequidens tetramerus (Heckel, 1840) (Cichliformes: Cichlidae), in small forest streams in the Machado River basin, southwestern Amazonia

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive strategy of Aequidens tetramerus in small streams of the Machado river basin, southwestern Amazon. We collected samples in two streams using seine and dip nets along a 50-m stretch of the stream. We collected 86 fishes, 19 males and 67 females (sex-ratio, 3.52 female:1male). Their body size varied from 1.5 to 11.5 cm. The size at first reproduction was 1.8 cm for females and 2.0 cm for males. The reproductive season of the species occurred in the dry period.

Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro - UENF (2006), Mestrado em Biologia de Água Doce e Pesca Interior pelo Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia - INPA (2009) e Doutorado em Ecologia e Evolução pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro - UERJ (2014). Atualmente atuo como professor adjunto na Universidade Federal Fluminense - UFF. Tem experiência na área de Ecologia, com ênfase em Bioecologia de peixes de águas interiores, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Ecologia de assembleias de peixes, ecologia de populações ictiicas, estudos de dieta e reprodução de peixes, metais pesados e pesca artesanal amazônica e no sudeste brasileiro.

Graduada na do curso de Engenharia de Pesca na Fundação Universidade Federal de Rondônia (UNIR). Participou do projeto Pirarucu Gente: Soberania alimentar e nutricional, como monitora/estagiária de 2011 a 2013. Participou dos estudos em áreas hematológicas e bioquímicas de Arapaima gigas 2014 a 2015. Bolsista do Programa Institucional de Bolsas e Trabalho Voluntário de Iniciação Científica - PIBIC/UNIR/CNPq, ciclo 2015-2016, realizando estudos reprodutivos da espécie Aequidens tetramerus e no ciclo 2016-2017, desenvolvendo pesquisa de Análise da concentração de mercúrio em músculo e fígado de Plagioscion squamosissimus (Perciformes: Scianidae) em um trecho do Rio Machado.

Possui graduação em Licenciatura Em Biologia pela Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (2006), mestrado em Programa de Pós-Graduação em Biologia Molecular pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo (2010) e doutorado em Ciências Biológicas (Biologia Molecular) pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo (2014). Atualmente é colaborador da Universidade Federal de Rondônia. Tem experiência na área de Bioquímica, com ênfase em Bioquímica, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: siluriformes, águas subterrâneas, platelet, kallikrein e poços.
