Abstract
The floristic composition and the phytosociological structure at the level occupied by herbaceous plants (herb layer) of the Atlantic Rain Forest are described herein. The study area is located in the Volta Velha Reserve (Itapoá, Santa Catarina, Brazil). Quadrats of one square meter (n=100) were established within an area of one hectare. All plants between five cm and one meter were counted and measured. Measuremente comprised estimation of the percent ground-cover of each plant, and its height. In total, 1159 plants were recorded, distributed among 44 plant families, 76 genera and 104 species. Herbaceous plants were distributed, in order of relative importance, among the following families: Bromeliaceae, Blechnaceae, Dryopteridaceae and Polypodiaceae. Among the families of trees and shrubs, Rubiaceae, Myrtaceae and Myrsinaceae were the most speciose. The most important species, floristically and structurally, were Nidularium innocentii, Blechnum serrulatum e Rapanea venosa.Downloads
