Abstract
The ant fauna known in the west of Santa Catarina state, as a result of an extensive inventory made by collector Fritz Plaumann, was revisited after a survey of the ant collection of the Zoology Museum of São Paulo. A list of known ant species of Santa Catarina (342 species and 72 genera) and distribution of this fauna with respect to regions of the state in which these species were recorded was presented. The data show that the present knowledge on the species distribution and composition of the regional ant fauna in the state is still deficient. Future collections need to give priority to certain regions of the state and to assess richness patterns and community structure using a structured inventory.Downloads
