Abstract
There are several parameterns that can be considered important modelers of insular animal communities, like insular area, elevation, floristic diversity, isolation, presence of predators and competitors. Communities of birds were studied on three islands: Rasa and Gamelas Islands, Guaraqueçaba Bay, and Bananas Island, Laranjeiras Bay. The results suggested that human occupation plays an important role in modelling the patterns of distribution of species. Coragyps atratus is very abundant on Rasa Island where the accumulation of solid waste and fish discharge compete to sustain its population. Gamelas Island, which is inhabited just by a single person, serves as a resting-place for huge flocks of Phalacrocorax brasilianus. Bananas Island is not permanently occupied by humans and it is a resting-place for mixed flocks of marine birds (Larus dominicanus, L. maculipennis, Sterna hirundinacea, S.hirundo, S. eurygnatha e S. superciliaris). The communities of birds showed differential responses to anthropogenic disturbances.Downloads
