Abstract
The aim of study was to evaluate the leaf area consumption, survival rate and weight of Urbanus acawoios (Williams, 1926) (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) caterpillars in the 3rd , 4th and 5th larval instares and pupal periods when they were fed with Phaseolus vulgaris ( Leguminosae: Faboideae) leaves of the Grupo Vermelho and Capixaba Precoce cultivars. The experiment was accomplished, from March to April, 2002. Eighty caterpillars were selected, consumed by each caterpillar was obtained by superposing a leaf-area sketch of the current day’s consumption over one representing the of the Capixaba Precoce cultivar was higher in the 1rd, 3th and 4th larval instars. The survival rates of the caterpillars fed on leaves from the Grupo Vermelho and Capixaba Precoce cultivars were 72.50 and 47.50% respectively. In the 3rd , 4th and 5th instars, there were no significant differences between the two cultivars regarding caterpillar weight or the numbers of pupae or pre-pupae produced.Downloads
