Abstract
The resent study on the morphological and morphometric characteristics of the tegument of swine was carried out in order to obtain data for future zootechnical research on swine adaptation to the tropical climate. Samples of tegument from the thoraco-lumbar region were obtained from 10 hybrid F1 (Large White females x Landrace male) and 10 F2 – Tricross (Large White - Landrace females X Duroc male)swines . After routine histological proces sing, sebaceous glands and hair follicles were counted, and the gland area and adipose tissue thickness were measured. Statistical comparison of the results showed no significant differences in sebaceous gland area, number of hair follicles or adipose tissue thickness between groups. Altho ugh a significant difference between groups was observed with respect to the number of sebaceous glands.
