Abstract

This paper presents a detailed description of the Geophagus brasiliensis skull, calling special attention to the degree of specilization placing it between the Perciformes. A detailed description of the olfactory, orbital, optical and basal regions as well as infra-orbital bones, mandibular arch, palae arch, hyoid arch, opercular series and branchial arches is furnished.

Possui Graduação em História Natural pela Universidade Santa Úrsula, Especialização em Oceanografia Biológica pela Universidade Santa Úrsula, Mestrado em Ciências Biológicas pela Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro e Doutorado em Ciências Biológicas (Zoologia) pela Universidade de São Paulo. Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Santa Úrsula.
