The local distribution and relative abundance of juvenile mullets in the Conceição Lagoon located in southern coast of Brazil, were studied over a 21 months period. Juvenile forms of three species, Mugil platanus, Mugil curema and Mugil gaimardianus were founded. Mugil platanus and M. curema are present year-round and M. gaimardianus shows sporadic and scare occurrence. The spatial and temporal patterns of species abundance for Mugil platanus and M. curema are distinct. Mugil platanus reachs maximum abundance in late-winter through early spring and M. curema in late-summer through autumn. The results of this study shows that Conceição Lagoon constitutes an important nursery ground for Mugil platanus and M. curema.Downloads
