Abstract

Hypophysation to induce the final maturation and ovulation/ spermiation of fishes is very well- known and has been used by Brazilian fish breeders, although there might be other hormonal inductors with physiological and economic advantages.This paper looks for the ideal dosage of LHRH-a to induce the final maturation and spawning in males and females of “pacu-caranha” (Piaractus mesopotamicus) comparing to traditional technique of induction. The quality and of sperm and eggs are evaluated, as well as production costs. The best results were achieved with the use of 16.5 ? g of LHRH-a/ kg for females (two dose), and 7.0 ? g of LHRH-a/ kg for males, the effects being qualitatively and quantitatively similar to those odserved in the traditional treatment with EPC. The use of LHRH-a yields a cost 4.5 times lower.

Evoy Zaniboni Filho  Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa 1B Possui graduação em Oceanologia pela Fundação Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (1981), mestrado em Biologia de Água Doce e Pesca Interior pelo Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (1985) e doutorado em Ecologia e Recursos Naturais pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1992). Entre 2008 e 2009 realizou estágio pós-doutoral junto ao Instituto Politécnico da Virginia - Virginia Tech, Estados Unidos. Atualmente é Professor Associado da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, vinculado ao Departamento de Aquicultura e bolsista de produtividade ligado ao Comitê Assessor de Aquicultura e Recursos Pesqueiros do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico. Atua na área de piscicultura com ênfase no desenvolvimento de tecnologia de reprodução, larvicultura e alevinagem de espécies de peixes migradores nativos do Brasil. Atua ainda no monitoramento e manejo da ictiofauna e da pesca na região do alto rio Uruguai. Certificado pelo autor em 04/11/11
