The bacterial concentration in mussels - Brachidontes darwinianus - and in the water of the Lagoa da Conceição was studied. Samples of water collected in February showed a greater number of heterotrophic bacteria than in other months. The bivalvia collected at the same place revealed in the mantle fluid and in the digestive tract a variable bacterial concentration. The highest values were observed in the animal as a whole, and were related with the values observed in the water. The high bacterial concentration in the water and in the whole animal are both correlated and coincided with the touristic season in the region. Complementary analyses are needed, but other filtering animals should also be analysed since the moluscs used in this study are becoming scare in the lagoon.Downloads
