In order to test the teratogenic sffect benzenic extract of Hibiscus rosa sinensis flowers, 200 mg/kg body weight of extract was given to female rats from de lst to the 10th day of pregnancy. The fetal body and organs (kidney, lung, liver, brain, pons and cerebellum) weights were recorded. No weight changes or gross malformations were observed in the treated group of fetuses suggesting that benzenic extratct from flowers cultivated in Juiz de Fora – MG, was not teratogenic to rats. The antiffertility effect has not been observed, possibly because of different soil and climatic conditions of the geographic region that may alter the chemical composition of the plant.
