Abstract
The avifauna of an area in the borough of Ribeirão da Ilha, Florianópolis, Santa Catarina: survey and implications for the environmental education. This article presents the results of a survey of the avifauna visiting a residential area of 403 m2 in the borough of Ribeirao da Ilha, Florianópolis (Santa Catarina, Brazil), where the presence of 28 bird species was confirmed. Twenty-seven other types of birds were also sighted and/or heard from this area, totaling 55 species distributed 28 families of 17 taxonomic orders. This survey is put into context by discussing the phenomenon of urban expansion of the city, the inhabitants' destructive practices, and measures connected with the conservation and recuperation of the floristic[s]environments.
