Abstract

This article discusses the emergence and evolution of disruptive disorders, based on editions of the Statistical and Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), presenting considerations on gender differences and the implications associated with the idea of disruptive behavior. Among the relevant points is the verification of the historical association between the emergence of gender aspects in the psychopathological discussion and the emergence of the group of disruptive behavior disorders. It is identified that this relationship seems to bring theoretical and practical difficulties arising from the absence of dialogue with the field of education, from which the idea of disruptive behavior emerges; the heterogeneity of the concept and the relationship it establishes with other nosological categories in the current literature. Finally, there is a little focus on evaluating the historical, cultural and moral impacts in the definitions of disruptive disorders and the incipient guidelines for clinical and research practices that aim to integrate gender aspects into the development and structuring matrix of this class of behaviors.
