The study aimed to verify if there is an association between the Main Audit Issues (MAI), item of the New Auditor's Report, and the financial result (profit/loss) of the entities composing the IBRX 100 index for 2016 and 2017. This research is opportunity, considering that the changes adopted by the new standards occurred in 2016 and, therefore, the topic has still been explored in Brazil. Furthermore, based on Hopwood et al. (1989) and in the Agency Theory, it is expected to contribute to the literature by identifying whether the categories indicated as PAAs can predict insolvency - that is, if there is a relationship between them with the loss of companies. Through correspondence analysis, 26 categories of PAAs and robustness tests were identified, three PAAs associated with losses were indicated: Taxes, Risks and fraud associated with processes and Corporate Reorganization. These categories, therefore, could configure as "red flags" by Hopwood et al. (1989), being indicative of insolvency and/or bankruptcy for companies that present such PAAs. Furthermore, these results contribute to the understanding of the professional judgment of auditors, and the PAAs about Taxes, Risks and fraud associated with processes and Corporate Reorganization could indicate the subjects that require greater attention from professionals for potentially greater impact on companies.
