This work aims to conduct a bibliometric survey and analyze the literature on Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) from january 2018 to March 2024, emphasizing the expected impacts of this innovation on the monetary and financial system, monetary policy, and the privacy of private transactions. Methodology: the analysis of the collected data was conducted using VOSviewer software, a powerful tool for the visualization and analysis of bibliometric networks. VOSviewer allows for the creation of co-citation networks, co-ocurrence of keywords, and other relationships between articles, making it easier to identify patterns and trends in CBDC research. Results: the analysis revealed a growing interest in the topic, led by research originating in the United States and China, addressing issues such as efficiency, financial inclusion, stability, and challenges like banking disintermediation and privacy. CBDCs have the potential to revolutionize the financial system but they require careful planning and international cooperation to mitigate risks and ensure responsible and beneficial implementation for all.
