Abstract

This article aims to analyze the market structure of the Brazilian trucking industry from 1990 to 2010, as this sector proves to be of fundamental importance to the economic development of the country to promote the integration of other sectors and/or regions throughout the production and distribution structure. The theoretical framework used for the analysis was based on the Industrial Organization approach under the Paradigm Structure-Conduct-Performance, aiming to investigate the main elements taht caracteriza the structure of the market, among them: the market share, the concentration ratio and summary index Herfindahl-Hirschman. Data for the analysis were obtained from publications Anfavea (National Association of Automobile Manufactures). The analysis allowed the conclusion that the market studied is heavily oligopoly, and prsent barriers to entry for new firms.
