Abstract

This work aims to apply the Alkire-Foster method (2009) for the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul and compare it with the one-dimensional method via monetary income in 2010. The results indicate that when comparing the two incidence measures poverty - H and incidence of poverty by income - it is clear that the first step had higher rates compared to the second. As the most deprived of the sample are not indicators for income, poverty is more intense when entering other variables. The most deprived are the dimensions of the indicators 'education' and 'home conditions'. If it is disaggregated by groups in racial categories, it can be seen that as the highest incidence of poverty - both by the multidimensional bias and the  - we are in the ‘indigenous’ group.
