Abstract
This paper discusses the October Revolution (1944-1954) in Guatemala and the end of the Oligarchic Liberal State. The paper analyses the period when the capitalism arouse in the country. The process was marked by the confrontation between a democratic elected government, led by Colonel Jacob Arbenz Gúzman and the United Fruit Company, supported by the Central Agency of Intelligence and the Department of State of Washington. In the end, the confrontation led not only to the fall of a democratic bourgeois political regime and the maintenance of primary export model, but also to the beginning of guerilla movement which lasted about five decades.Downloads
