Abstract

This paper aims to address the different ways of doing political theory, notably from normative and historical perspectives, using the work of Thomas Hobbes as a point of reference for the topic. Above all, it addresses the way in which theory relates to the science of politics, considering the definition of what is normative and historical within an understanding of political theory. Thus, it is possible to analyze the way in which Hobbes evaluates and contributes intellectually to a thought about the legitimacy of government and representation, which will be taken up again in contemporary times by some of his commentators.
