This article deals with the history of the Ottoman Empire (1299-1922) and its historiography, seeking to initially present to the Brazilian public the main milestones, concepts, and academic debates of what would be the “rise” and “fall” of this multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-racial and multi-linguistic empire that existed for six centuries on three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa. We then begin to debate what already exists in Brazil in this regard and why it is necessary to know it better from within the country, going beyond a historiography that focuses on the “Arab world” or “Muslim world” and that does not understand the Ottoman Empire as part of Europe as well.
