This article examines the visit made by Royal Prince D. Luís Filipe in 1907 to the African colonies in general and to Mozambique in particular. The central objective is to understand the context of the journey's preparation, as well as to analyze the implicit and explicit purposes of its realization, drawing on diplomatic correspondence and official records of the period. Although the expedition was initially prompted by British and humanitarian pressure regarding the persistence of slave and forced labor on the cocoa plantations of Sao Tome and Principe, the study demonstrates that other motives transcended this issue. It is concluded that the journey achieved significant political and diplomatic success. The visit served not only to legitimize Portuguese overseas rule and bolster the monarchical regime but, above all, it acted as a key element in consolidating the diplomatic rapprochement between Portugal and the United Kingdom following the 1890 Ultimatum crisis. Despite contributing to the future heir's institutional development, the full public recognition and the long-term consequences of the voyage were tragically cut short by the regicide on February 1st, 1908.
