Abstract

A proposta do artigo é examinar a influência das forças culturais sobre a paixão do naturalista, escritor e conservacionista escocês-americano John Muir, pela natureza. Particularmente, quero sugerir que o papel das idéias e dos sentimentos associados com o nascimento da democracia moderna podem ter desempenhado um papel importante no desenvolvimento dessa paixão.
