Abstract

In the preface to his Ab urbe condita libri, Livy has expressed some observations about the nature of the facts concerning the foundation of the city of Rome. The objective of this study is to discuss how Livy has faced the obstacles that imposed themselves for those who wished to investigate the origins of Rome, through his manipulation of the concepts of fabula and monumentum.
