Approximation of university students of public health field to feminism and issues of sexual and reproductive health

Abstract

The studies and feminist discourses of the academic field of public health have contributed and are contributing to the preparation, planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of public policies for women, especially in the field of women’s health, in a context of sexual and reproductive citizenship. Therefore, adding new people to feminist thinking is strategic in promoting women’s health and encourage the recognition of Sexual and Reproductive Rights. This research aimed at identifying ways of approaching feminism and with the theme of sexual and reproductive health with a feminist perspective by academic feminists in the area of public health. To this end, interviews were conducted and the results were analyzed using content analysis based on Bardin. Among the results, include: The university area was the excellence place of the approximations of the respondents with feminist thought, the main avenue of approach to feminism was through personal contacts with feminists, the elaboration and implementation of PAISM turned out constitute a strategy for dissemination of feminist thought throughout the country, the interest of the interviewees on the subject of sexuality, reproduction and overall health of the woman acted as a catalyst for rapprochement with feminist ideas, the feedback between the feminist movement and public health field produced a new scientific field called “gender, sexuality and reproductive health”.
