In this paper we can see how the discourse around the need for "illumination" and "force" legitimized the beginning of a hydropower policy in Paraná State, Brazil. From the analysis of some officials sources of the beginning of the republican government of the Paraná State, Brazil (1904-1913), discusses the speculation around the generation and sale of electric power, mainly for capital Curitiba. At the time, emerge the first actions for implementation of hydroelectric on the Iguaçu River, inaugurating a practice that would intensify throughout the twentieth century, especially after the 1970s, with the construction of five dams along its route.Downloads
